Dalnee Lake Dalnee Lake

DALNEE (FAR) LAKE

The Dalnee Lake is located the north-east part of the Uzon Caldera in the deep crater at the height of 760 m. The lake doesn't have the external discharge outlet.

coordinates: N54.50609º, E160.04075º

The lake fills the so called maar which is much younger than the Uzon Caldera. Maar is the crater of the explosive eruption which happened 10 thousand years ago. The circular rampart of 1 km diameter and 60-100 m height made of volcanic ashes, scoria, lava and basalt was formed. The narrow beach is also covered by major basalt blocks and scoria resembling the honeycomb, they are very light and do not submerge immediately. In 10 m from the bank the depth of the lake is about 1-1,5 m, the maximum depth is 25 m. In the west part of the lake there is a small rocky island which is, probably, the remnants of the repressed lava.

At the depth of 5-20 m there are big river loaches; the exact reason of its appearance is unknown because the lake is without drainage. Loach lives in the lake permanently and reaches 35 cm in size. The temperature of the water is not more 15o C even near the coast.
