KRASHENINNIKOVA VOLCANO

It is an active volcano located in the East Volcanic Belt of Kamchatka in 13 km to the south from the Kronotskoye Lake.

The volcano is rather peculiar. It was formed at the bottom of the ancient volcano, the diameter of which was 30 km. But this structure was ruined by great eruptions, which caused the formation of the depression or caldera with 12 km diameter. Two volcanic cones were formed in this caldera. While growing, they joined. The South Cone with 800 m width crater remained in original. But in the crater of the North Cone one more cone was formed with another small lava cone in it. The absolute height of the South cone is 1856 m, the comparative height is 850 m, the North Cone – 1760 and 760 m correspondingly. The central cones of the volcano started its activity about 11 000 years ago. The South Cone was formed about 11-6,5 thousand years ago, the North Cone - 6,4-2 thousand years ago, the North middle cone – 1300-1100 years ago. Lava eruptions and lava cone formation in the crater took place about 600-400 years ago.
