PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY
It is the biggest city in Kamchatka and the capital of the Kamchatka Krai. It is located at the bank of the biggest and the most beautiful bays in the world - the Avacha bay.
The population is about 200 000 people. The distance from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to Moscow is 8200 km.
It was founded in 1740, October, 17, as a stockaded town onsite the national settlement of Aushin. The founder of the city is a famous navigator Vitus Bering who passed into the Avacha bay in the Second Kamchatka Expedition of 1732-1743. The city was named after the packet ships "St. Peter" and "St. Paul".
Until 1990 Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky had been the only Far East city included in the list of the historical cities because it has landmarks, architectural ensembles which are the national culture monuments, natural landscape and the ancient vegetable soil which is also architecturally valuable.
