KAMEN VOLCANO
The Kamen (Rock) Volcano is located in the centre of the Klyuchevskaya Group of Volcanoes. It is the second Kamchatka volcano in height – 4575 m . The volcano is extinct and is one of the most ancient.
Once it was the regular cone volcano, but tremendous explosions destroyed its east part and threw it about the area. The size of the huge rock fragments is 5-10 m, but there are even the bigger ones. For example, near the middle course of the Suhaya Kapitsa river there is the Ambon Rock which was thrown from the volcano for 10 km away. Its diameter is about 50 m, the volume is about 16 000 m3. This rock is more than the five-storied building, its weight is 40-45 thousand tons. The Ambon is the geological natural monument.
The west slope of the volcano is not damaged by the explosions and has the inclination of 30-35° that is usual for cone-shaped volcanoes. The east slope has three circus benches with the inclination of 70-75°. The volcano top is difficult of access.
